ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. These acupuncture points are connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced "chee") through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.

Acupuncture promotes blood flow, reduces inflammation, relieves pain and restores homeostasis. It also reduces stress and cause the release of natural painkillers (endorphins, norepinephrine and enkephalin). It can be used for a wide variety of specific symptoms and conditions, or simply because you feel low on energy or generally unwell (physically and/or emotionally).

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture can be used to treat an array of symptoms and conditions, including physical and mental health issues. This includes:

- Back or neck pain

- Tennis Elbow

- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

- Tension headaches and migraines

- Joint problems

- Myofascial pain

- Arthritic pain

- Knee Pain

- Plantar Fasciitis

- Shin Splints

- Osteoarthritis/Rheumatoid Arthritis

- Shoulder Impingement

- Tendinitis

- Trigger Points

- Whiplash

- Anxiety

On your first appointment, you will be required to complete a short medical form and will be asked series of questions. I will run through an examination to try and work out the cause of the problem. I will also gather further information by discussing the problems you are having.

You may be asked to undress to your underwear, though I have lots of towels to ensure your modesty is kept at all times and that you are warm and comfortable.

Needles will then be inserted, manipulated and then removed after a period of time. Often you cannot feel the needles but sometimes there can be some discomfort or bruising afterwards. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information about the treatment.

Acupuncture is available as a standalone treatment. You can also choose a combination treatment if you are wanting Soft Tissue massage as well.

I  may incorporate acupuncture into a 60 min sports massage treatment for free if I feel it would help enhance and prolong the benefits of your treatment.
